REGISTERED GENERAL NURSING

The Registered General Nursing (RGN) Programme is a three-year professional training course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care. The curriculum integrates biomedical sciences, behavioural sciences, nursing theory and practice, leadership, and research, all tailored to meet Ghana’s dynamic healthcare needs.

Programme Objectives

The Registered General Nursing Programme aims to:

  • Equip students with a solid foundation in anatomy, physiology, nursing theory, and clinical skills.

  • Train competent professionals capable of delivering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative health services.

  • Promote effective use of nursing informatics, communication, and emergency response in clinical settings.

  • Foster critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and professional adjustment in diverse nursing roles.

  • Prepare graduates for roles in community health, paediatric and obstetric care, mental health, and surgical/medical nursing.

  • Ensure practical readiness through extensive clinical practicum placements each semester.

REGISTERED MIDWIFERY

The Registered Midwifery Programme spans three years (six semesters) and combines rigorous academic coursework, clinical practicum, and community-based experiences to prepare competent, compassionate midwives for diverse healthcare settings.

Programme Objectives

The programme aims to:

  • Provide comprehensive instruction in anatomy, physiology, and midwifery science, emphasizing normal and complicated pregnancy, labour, breastfeeding, and neonatal care.

  • Develop midwives skilled in complementary & traditional medicine, emergency management, and public health.

  • Foster professional competencies in mental health, research, family planning, and health administration.

  • Instill leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, including entrepreneurship, supply chain management, and introductory foreign languages.

  • Ensure hands-on experience through intra- and inter-semester practicum placements in clinical, surgical, community, and public health settings.
