After the creation of the Techiman Diocese, the first Bishop (Most Rev. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko) of Techiman took keen interest in the establishment of the College. With the development of the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman to a Post Graduate Training Institute coupled with inadequate Nurses, particularly Midwives in the Diocesan Health institutions, the need for easier and more extensive access to human resources in the Nursing field was felt as very necessary to establish the school.
Since Techiman became a separate Diocese, the new Diocesan Administrator of Techiman evaluated the need and subscribed to the initiative as very appropriate for the Diocesan Health Service. After a thorough inspection and assessment in Techiman, enough land was identified and made available for the building of the Nursing School at the compound of the Holy Family Hospital.
The Traditional council of chiefs and the Techiman community as well as the Techiman Municipal Assembly were very much in favour of the project and decided to support the course of establishing the school.
As a result of the Bishop’s interest in the project, there were several on-going discussions with stakeholders for the realization of the dream. In February, 2010 the Techiman Municipal Assembly provided funds for the construction of a three-unit classroom block. The Diocese also under the auspices of the Bishop provided funds for the construction of the administration block. The sod cutting ceremony was done in February 2010 for work to begin.
A seven-member committee was set up to oversee the processes of establishing the school which included accreditation and the running of the school. In line with the responsibilities of the committee, two separate letters were written to the Ministry of Health and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for permission. The Ministry of Health responded positively by giving its blessing for the establishment of the school. In their response, they requested the Nursing and Midwifery Council to fast track the process of accreditation for the school to commence in the 2011/2012 academic year.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council also gave their authorization for the school to be established.
Several visits were made by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana for assessment which led to the accreditation of the College to run two (2) Diploma Programmes; Registered General Nursing (RGN) and Registered Midwifery (RM) with effect from the 2013/2014 academic year.
Hundred students were admitted for the 2013/2014 academic year; Fifty (50) students for each of the programmes. Later in July 2016, the Nursing and Midwifery Council accredited the school to run the two year Post NAC/NAP Midwifery Programme with its first batch of 12 students most of whom were staff of the Holy Family Hospital. Current total student population is Six Hundred and Forty (640).
