The establishment of the Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Techiman, was driven by the vision and commitment of the first Bishop of the Techiman Diocese, Most Rev. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko. Following the creation of the Diocese, the Bishop recognised the growing need to strengthen nursing and midwifery education to address the shortage of qualified nursing professionals, particularly midwives, within the Diocesan Health Institutions. The development of Holy Family Hospital, Techiman, into a postgraduate training institution further highlighted the need for a sustainable and reliable source of skilled nursing and midwifery personnel. In response to this need, the establishment of a nursing training college was considered a strategic initiative to improve access to professional nursing education and enhance healthcare delivery within the Diocese and beyond. Following the creation of the Diocese, the Diocesan Administrator also assessed the proposal and endorsed it as an important initiative for the Diocesan Health Service. After a thorough inspection and assessment of potential sites in Techiman, suitable land was identified and made available within the premises of Holy Family Hospital for the construction of the College. The initiative received strong support from the Traditional Council of Chiefs, the people of Techiman, and the Techiman Municipal Assembly, all of whom recognised the importance of the project to healthcare development and professional nursing education in the area. Through the Bishop’s commitment and sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders, plans for the establishment of the College gradually took shape. In February 2010, the Techiman Municipal Assembly provided funding for the construction of a three-unit classroom block, while the Diocese, under the leadership of the Bishop, financed the construction of the administration block. The sod-cutting ceremony was held in February 2010, marking the official commencement of construction and the beginning of a significant milestone in nursing and midwifery education in Techiman. Today, the College stands as a reflection of the vision, collaboration, and dedication of the Diocese, the Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities, and the wider Techiman community towards strengthening nursing and midwifery education and contributing to improved healthcare delivery.
